Development and Evaluation of Polyherbal Formulations for Hepatoprotective Activity

Background: Liver is one of the most important human organs and a sensitive target for chemicals that modulate biotransformation. The present study aimed to develop polyherbal formulation in form both capsules (solid dosage form) suspensions (liquid with combination powders Ricinus communis leaves, Allium sativum cloves, Piper nigrum seeds evaluated hepatoprotective activity. Methods: Three batches each (CF1, CF2, CF3 SF1, SF2, SF3 suspensions) were developed by varying starch (as binder) concentration granulation concentrations sodium CMC (carboxy methyl cellulose) thickening agent suspension formulations. These initially in-vitro parameters. Then calculated OD (overall desirability) factor formulations based on good flow properties pourable viscosity suspensions, respectively. Results: It was found CF2 SF1 selected as best. Hence, these two considered further pharmacological evaluation ex-vivo studies using rat liver slices CCl4 triggered lipid peroxidation assay reduced glutathione assay, which revealed effectively prevented considerably increased levels. Conclusion: demonstrated forms could be used activity treat toxicities adults (capsules) pediatric geriatric (Suspension) patients.
